NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In the first outdoor match at the Currey Tennis Center this spring, Vanderbilt men’s tennis dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 42 Arkansas on Sunday afternoon.
The Razorbacks took the doubles point with wins on Nos. 1 and 3. Vanderbilt’s Macsen Sisam and Marcus Ferreira were knotted at 4-4 on No. 2, but Arkansas (7-5, 1-2 SEC) controlled the other two courts with wins of 6-1 at No. 1 and 6-2 at No. 3.
In singles, Vanderbilt picked up a pair of points with Ferriera defeating his opponent 7-5, 7-5 on No. 2 and George Harwell battled back to win 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (2) on No. 1
However, the Razorbacks took straight-set wins on No. 4 (6-4, 6-1) and No. 5 (6-2, 6-3) to go up 3-0 before Ferreira finished off his opponent to make it 3-1.
Arkansas then sealed the win with a 6-4, 6-4 victory on No. 3 and added one more point with a 7-5, 6-2 win on No. 6 before Harwell closed the day with his comeback win.
Vanderbilt is next in action at 5 p.m. Friday when it goes back on the road to visit Kentucky. It will then be home next Sunday for a 9 a.m. match against Middle Tennessee.
