AUBURN, ALA. – On day two of the SEC Championships the Vanderbilt swim team broke two school records all while recording five individual career-best performances and seven season-best swims. Junior Martin led the `Dores setting an individual school record in the 50 free and swimming in the lead off spot in Wednesday’s record setting 200 free relay team.

“It was exciting for the girls to break that record (200 free relay),” said head coach Jeremy Organ. “Hannah (Matin) obviously had a great swim this morning to kick-off today. So it’s been a good day with some really good swims. We’ve got some great stuff to build off of for tomorrow, and we’re looking forward to seeing what happens.”

After the conclusion of diving finals, the Commodores took to the waters once again for the 200 Relay team. With a representative from each class on the relay team, the `Dores were represented all around. The relay team of Hannah Martin, Caroline Thomas, Brenda Cha, and Kayla Moran broke the Vanderbilt 200 free relay record with a time of 1:33.19.

Prelims:

The Commodores had four student-athletes competing in 500 free prelims; current record holder Carrie Bencic, Bailey Bowden, Summer Brown, and Lauren Egan. Egan, a sophomore from Baltimore, MD swam in with her fastest career time of 5:04.22.

Following the 500 free another quartet of Commodores took to the waters to compete in the 200 IM preliminary swims. In heat one, both Kathryn Coughlin and Rachel Koch registered the fastest time in their swimming careers for the event. Koch swam in with a time of 2:05.22, and Coughlin at 2:07.43.

In heat three of the 200 IM, Elly Faulker led the `Dores swimming a season-best time of 2:05.22. Freshman Kara Lucenti followed the senior vet, registering a time of 2:04.45.

The 50 Free has been the Commodores best event thus far in the 2015 SEC competition. Vandy recorded four season-best, two career-best, and one school record time.

Vanderbilt kicked-off the first day of SECs with Kayla Moran breaking her own record in the 50 free time trials. In Wednesday morning prelims, Hannah Martin broke Moran’s record swimming at a time of 23.27. Moran followed Martin, finishing the race at a time of 23.45.

In her last SEC championship meet Alexis Mayhall recorded her fastest time in the 50 free prelims, coming in at 25.50. Brenda Cha came close to breaking the freshman record swimming her fastest time of the season; 23.53. Louisville, Ky. native, Caroline Thomas, broke her season record in the 50 free, bringing in a time of 24.11 for the black and gold.

Vanderbilt hopes to feed of today’s momentum as another day of SEC swimming action begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. with prelims.
