Dores Down Tigers on Senior Night

Ella Eggleston registered a goal in the 88th minute to lift Vandy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Freshman Ella Eggleston scored her fifth goal of the season to secure Vanderbilt’s 1-0 victory over Missouri on senior night Friday at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. Tonight’s victory marks the seventh shutout of the season and the first division win of the year for the Commodores.

Vanderbilt opened the first frame controlling 63 percent of the possession and held a 5-2 edge on shots. Jada Konte had back-to-back interceptions in the first 20 minutes to hold the Tigers to just one shot on goal in the half.

Missouri had two opportunities to score in the second. Mallory McGuire passed two defenders to send a strike on goal, but senior keeper Kate Devine deflected the ball to the 18-yard box where Kylee Simmons shot just wide to keep the match scoreless.

Missouri had another opportunity after a yellow card was issued to Commodore Amber Nguyen, but the Tigers committed a foul on the ensuing free kick to give Vanderbilt the possession.

Eggleston checked back into the match in the 83rd minute and Vanderbilt put up two shots over the next minute but couldn’t connect. The Commodores earned their ninth corner kick of the game, and Abi Brighton served into the box to find Eggleston for the header into the back of the net.

Eggleston now has the second-most goals on the team this season, trailing just Rachel Deresky who has six scores.

The Commodores celebrated the careers of seven seniors during a pregame ceremony.
