NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team defeated Auburn 4-1 on Friday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center to notch its first conference win of the season.
Vanderbilt struck first to claim the doubles point over the Tigers with victories at Nos. 1 and 2. Commodore duo George Harwell and Macsen Sisam started the Dores off with a 6-2 win at No. 2 followed by Adam Sraberg and Christiaan Worst winning at No. 3, 7-5, to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, senior Billy Rowe battled in the first set to take the set in the tiebreaker 7-6 (5) followed by a dominant 6-3 win in the second to claim the Dores’ first singles victory. With the win, Rowe put the Dores in the lead 2-1.
Sisam quickly advances the Commodores lead to 3-1 at No. 5 with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, comeback to claim his first SEC singles victory.
Clinching the match for the Dores, senior Panu Virtanen stepped up to come back from a 5-7 loss in the second set to win 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 to claim Vanderbilt’s first conference win.
The Dores return to action at noon Friday to face Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
