Dores Down Indiana

Harwell clinches the match, 4-2

AUSTIN, Texas – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team overpowered Indiana 4-2 in their final match of the ITA Kick-Off on Sunday at the Texas Tennis Center.

Starting with doubles play, Indiana struck first to claim the doubles point with wins a No. 2 and 3 doubles.

In singles, the Commodores bounced back with senior Panu Virtanen notching the Dores’ first win with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Andrew Redding to tie the match.

Freshman Joubert Klopper pushed the Dores into the lead by defeating Vikash Singh in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. The freshman boasts a 3-1 singles record since joining the program in January.

Tying the match 2-2, Indiana struck back with junior Max Freeman falling 6-3, 6-3 to Carson Haskins at No. 3 singles.

Advancing the Dores lead to 3-2, senior Billy Rowe dominated on court 2 with a straight set victory over Zc Brodney 6-4, 6-4.

With two courts remaining, junior  George Harwell stepped up after winning the first set 6-3 to down Bennett Crane in a second set tiebreak 7-6 (5) to clinch the match 4-2 for the Dores.

The Commodores now sport a 3-1 record and will return to action Jan. 31 to host Middle Tennessee at the Currey Tennis Center.
