NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In a break from SEC action, the Vanderbilt Commodores shook its losing skid in defeating the visiting DePaul Blue Demons 6-1 on Wednesday morning at Currey Tennis Center.
Doubles play for the Dores featured a 6-4 win from Marcus Ferreira and Adam Sraberg at No. 2 and a thrilling 7-6 (5) tiebreaking winner by Max Freeman and George Harwell at No. 1. Jeremie Casabon and Connor Robb-Wilcox went unfinished at No. 3, but were deadlocked at 6-6 in the tiebreaker.
Vanderbilt (5-9) rode the momentum from doubles into singles by claiming the first three matches – all of which were won in straight sets. Joubert Klopper soundly defeated his DePaul opposition at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-0 scoreline for the first singles point.
Casabon claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 then Macsen Sisam followed with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) win at No. 4 to officially clinch the match. Robb-Wilcox came back to win a fifth point for the Dores with his 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6. Ferreira won at No. 2 with a dominant tiebreaking win in the decisive third set to take the match 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (1).
With the win, Vanderbilt broke a nine-match skid, which spanned back to mid-February.
The Commodores will head back to SEC play this weekend with their final road matches of the campaign. On Friday, Vanderbilt will travel to take on No. 3 Tennessee before heading to No. 13 Georgia on Sunday.
Both matches are scheduled for noon CT starts.
