Dores Conclude Round 2 at Linger Longer

Freshman Jon Ed Steed moved into the top 10 in Round 2 of the Linger Longer Invitational, as the Commodores sit in fifth place after 36 holes

EATONTON, Ga. – Freshman Jon Ed Steed moved into the top 10 on the player leaderboard after two rounds of play at the 20th Linger Longer Invitational, as the No. 11/10-ranked Vanderbilt men’s golf team sits in fifth place with a 36-hole score of 9-under 567.

Steed posted an under-par round for the second-straight day, as the freshman finished Round 2 at 2-under 70. Steed collected five birdies during his second go-around at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee, as he pushes his tournament total to 10. The Enterprise, Alabama, native moved up six spots on the player leaderboard in Round 2, and heads into Sunday’s finale tied for seventh place with a 36-hole score of 5-under 139.

The Commodores concluded the second round of the Linger Longer Invitational in fifth place with a score of 9-under 567. Vanderbilt finished Round 2 at 1-over 289 and heads into Sunday three strokes behind second-place Alabama.

“I thought we were really close to having a good team round today, and I was proud of how we competed,” said Thomas F. Roush, M.D., and Family Vanderbilt Men’s Golf Head Coach Scott Limbaugh. “This group is continuing to shape our identity, and every single day matters. Jon Ed was steady and in control all day, which was big for the team. I also thought Wells did a great job without his best stuff, which was big and Will battling to finish his round.  Also, it was great to see Carlos play a good round, and hopefully that can get him going.”

Senior Wells Williams wrapped Round 2 at 1-under 71 to extend his rounds-counted streak to 58 rounds dating back to his sophomore season. Williams collected four birdies on Saturday and goes into Round 3 tied for 18th with a two-day score of 2-under 142

Junior Carlos Astiazaran had his best round as a Commodore on Saturday, as he carded 3-under 69. Astiazaran collected Vanderbilt’s lone eagle on the day, as he finished 2-under on the par-5 Hole 6.

Georgia extended its lead to 18 strokes over the field at the end of Day 1, as the Bulldogs hold a two-day score of 31-under 545. Grayson Wood of Georgia leads the field by a stroke on the player leaderboard, as he heads into Round 3 at 11-under 133.

The Commodores tee off Round 3 on Sunday, starting at 8:33 a.m. CT. Fans can click the link here to follow along with live scoring.

“I am excited to see our guys finish strong tomorrow, and we need everyone in it from the start,” Limbaugh expressed. “We need to be aggressive, have fun, and continue to learn to be elite at doing the simple things well.”

Snedeker Rolling at the Valspar Championship
Vanderbilt alum Brandt Snedeker sits in a tie for second place at the Valspar Championship on the PGA TOUR through three rounds of play. The former Commodore All-American has carded 9-under through 54-holes of play at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Florida. Snedeker tees off the final round on Sunday at 12:50 p.m. CT.

Fans can follow Snedeker’s round on Sunday with early coverage airing on Golf Channel from noon to 2 p.m. CT and late coverage from 2 to 5 p.m. CT on NBC and Peacock.
