BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Vanderbilt women’s swimming recorded a second place finish with 783.5 total points on Saturday to wrap up the Western Kentucky Invitational at the Bill Powell Natatorium.
Western Kentucky won the three-day meet with 878.5 points, while the University of the Cumberlands came in third (321) and Sewanee: University of the Sou finished fourth (132).
On the final day of competition, Vanderbilt picked up wins in two individual races, giving the Commodores seven total wins for the weekend.
Freshman Hannah Martin claimed another victory for Vanderbilt, as she won the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.68. Martin’s teammate Caroline Thomas came in right behind Martin with a second place finish in a time of 51.74.
Jenn Mann continues her stellar swimming after notching another victory in the 200 breaststroke. Mann beat all competition by nearly two seconds, as she touched the wall in 2:16.67.
Lauren Torres registered a second place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.71. Chrissy Oberg then came in second with a time of 2:01.45 in the 200 backstroke.
The Commodores completed the meet with a second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Thomas, Torres, Martin and Melissa Roberts finished in 3:30.08.
Vanderbilt returns to the Centennial Sportsplex after nearly two months off from competition, as the Commodores host Evansville Jan. 12, in the first meet of the 2013 calendar year.
