NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team opened the ITA Ohio Valley Regional tournament by notching 11 victories Thursday at the Currey Tennis Center and Centennial Sportsplex.
The Commodores opened the tournament battling in the doubles Round of 64 with three Commodore duos marking their spots in the Round of 32.
Advancing to the Round of 16, Dore pair Macsen Sisam and Adam Sraberg stepped up to take down East Tennessee State’s Bednarczyk and Este, 8-4.
Junior doubles tandem Max Freeman and George Harwell joined Sisam and Sraberg in the Round 16 by besting Louisville pair Mizrahi and Wilson, 8-3, to conclude the doubles Round of 32.
The Dores wrapped up day one in singles play with seven student-athletes advancing to the main draw Round of 64.
Three Commodores earned undefeated starts to the event after clinching both doubles and singles matches. Sisam, Freeman and Harwell all advanced in both the main draw of singles and doubles.
In singles, Sisam defeated Austin Peay’s Lorino in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, notching his fourth singles victory of the fall tournament.
Harwell outlasted Kentucky’s Chen, 6-1, 6-2, followed by Freeman staying strong against Jochim (IUPUI ) to win his sixth victory of the fall season, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
The tournament will pick back up on Friday with the first round of singles beginning at 8 a.m. CT followed by the doubles Round of 16.
