Dominating Opener

Seven goals tie program record for goals scored in opener

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt soccer posted its first shutout of the 2025 season in a 7-0 win over Austin Peay on Thursday night at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. The Commodores’ seven goals marked their highest offensive output in a season opener since a 7–0 win over Georgia State in 2019.

Freshman Reagan Pentz found Adysen Armenta cross-box for the heading score. Pentz struck again midway through the first half, setting up junior Courtney Jones for a 2–0 advantage. An Austin Peay own goal extended the lead before senior Vivian Akyirem netted her second career goal in black and gold just seconds later.

Early in the second half, graduate transfer Susanna Soderman opened her Vanderbilt scoring account off a cross from freshman Olivia Stafford. Pentz completed her hat trick of assists in the 75th minute, finding Sydney Watts to make it 6–0. Her three assists were the most by a Commodore since Grace Jackson achieved the feat in 2019 against Jacksonville State.

Vandy’s final advantage of the night came from freshman Vicky Pugh in the 86th minute. Senior Ally Bollig earned her first career minutes for Vanderbilt after being sidelined her first three seasons due to injury.

Vanderbilt returns to action Sunday evening, hosting Louisville at 6 p.m. at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. The match will stream live on SEC Network+.
