Jill Doherty ended her first college season with the best game of her career.
And the Vanderbilt midfielder’s career day didn’t go unnoticed.
Doherty was recently named to the American Lacrosse Conference All-Tournament team. The freshman was one of 14 players named to the All-Tournament Team.
In Vanderbilt’s 12-9 loss to Northwestern in the opening round of the league tournament, Doherty scored a career-high five goals. The 5-foot-3 midfielder from Reading, Mass., netted three goals in the first 12 minutes and had four – one more than her previous career-high – by halftime. She also added an assist on Amanda Lockwood’s game-tying goal with 13:13 left.
For the season, Doherty ranked second on the team in assists (17), third in points (37) and draw controls (30) and fourth in goals (20). She played in all 17 games, starting 14, and led all Vanderbilt freshmen in goals, assists, points, draw controls, ground balls (16) and caused turnovers (13).
