Day three of SECs in the books

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Day three of the 2012 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships is in the books. Commodore swimmers competed in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 400 medley relay on the day.

The action got underway at Tennessee’s Allan Jones Aquatic Center with the 400 IM. Erika Deardorf posted the top Commodore time, finishing 27th with a mark of 4:29.21. Alyxandra Vernon also swam and posted a time of 4:34.20.

Next up was the 100 butterfly, with senior Elizabeth Brunk posting the top Commodore time of 57.83. Laura Dillon (58.27), Margaret Freeman (58.71) and Rebecca Young (1:00.32) also competed in the event for Vanderbilt.

Amy Salce posted the top time in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:55.43. She was followed by Melissa Roebrts (1:56.90) and Margaux Georgiadis (1:58.66).

One of the top Vanderbilt performances of the event followed in the 100 breaststroke, as Elly Faulkner posted a time of 1:03.98 that was good for 22nd. Faulkner was just 1.7 seconds shy of qualifying for the finals. Sarah Lynch posted a mark of 1:04.43. That was followed by Laura Dillon with a time of 1:06.01, Elizabeth Brunk with a mark of 1:06.37 and Rebecca Young posting a time of 1:09.81.

The final individual event of the day, the 100 backstroke, saw a pair of strong performances from Vanderbilt freshmen Alexis Mayhall and Chrissy Oberg. Mayhall finished with a time of 57.00 while Oberg completed the event in 57.02. Chelsea Morey and Jess Eccher rounded out the event with times of 59.02 and 59.74, respectively.

The evening session saw Vanderbilt post a time of 3:48.77 in the 400 medley relay. Oberg, Faulkner, Brunk and Caroline Thomas swam the event for the Commodores.

Vanderbilt is in 10th place with 64 points.

The final day of the 2012 SEC Championships will include the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 1650 freestyle and conclude with the 400 freestyle relay.

The individual prelims get underway at 9:00 a.m. CT, followed by the 1650 free starting at 2:30 p.m. CT and the finals beginning at 5:00 p.m. CT.
