Vanderbilt’s men’s tennis team opened their first day in the Land Rover Napa Valley Tennis Classic with an 0-4 start, winning in doubles play but falling short in singles.
Touted-freshman Gonzales Austin and senior Alex DiValerio teamed up for the Commodores’ lone winning score in the first day of play, with a 9-7 mark against Tulsa’s Ashley Watling and Japie De Klerk.
Play resumes tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. PT, with sophomore Blake Bazarnik taking on USTA’s JC Aragone. Austin plays at 11:30 against USTA’s Luca Corintelli, DiValerio starts at 1 p.m. against USTA’s Alexios Halebian, and Jones wraps up Saturday’s play against USTA’s Mitchell Kreuger at 2 p.m.
