NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Following No. 18/20 Vanderbilt’s victory over Georgia State, Jamison Curtis was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday for his efforts as part of multiple special teams units in the Commodores’ fourth consecutive win to open the season.
The highlight for the Mobile, Alabama, resident came midway through the third quarter of Vandy’s 70-21 defeat of Georgia State when he blocked a punt and then picked up the loose ball to return it 4 yards for a touchdown. In addition to helping the Dores average nearly 13 yards per punt return against the Panthers, Curtis also aided in the Commodores posting a season-long 46-yard run back on their only kick return of the contest and he was part of a unit that allowed just 18.5 yards per kickoff return.
The linebacker was credited with a tackle on defense as well.
It’s the third straight week that Vandy has had a member of the program claim SEC honors, as he joins Nick Rinaldi (Defensive) and Jordan White (Offensive Lineman) who were recognized following the Dores’ wins over Virginia Tech and South Carolina, respectively.
Curtis and the nationally-ranked Commodores will conclude nonconference play at FirstBank Stadium Saturday at 11:45 a.m. against Utah State, with the matchup set to be broadcast on SEC Network.
