Former Vanderbilt men’s golf All-American Jon Curran had a great start to his PGA Tour career on Sunday at the Frys.com Open in Napa, Calif., finishing the event in a tie for eighth at 11-under 277 (68-72-67-70).
Curran, who earned his PGA Tour card after finishing in the top 20 on the Web.com Tour last season, made three birdies and one bogey on Sunday in route to his final-round 70 at Silverado Resort.
Although Curran earned his card last year, he struggled down the stretch on the Web.com Tour, missing the cut in 11 of his last 13 events. However this week, he was the only Tour rookie to finish in the top 10.
“It’s awesome to come here and start the year off on a good note, especially since I didn’t end the year off well on the Web.com Tour,” Curran told PGATour.com. “I was ready to come out here and get it going.”
Another former Vanderbilt alum, Brandt Snedeker, also competed at the event and finished at one-under, 287 (71-71-73-72).
Both Curran and Snedeker will tee it up October 13-19 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the TPC Summerlin.
