CSC Honors for Four Dores

Quartet of Vanderbilt swimmers earn academic all-district recognition

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Four Vanderbilt swimmers—Kate Heintz, Quinlan Hinerfeld, Reagan Mathieson and Kailia Utley—made the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® team announced on Tuesday.

It’s the third season in a row that both Mathieson and Utley have been recognized.

Heintz ended her sophomore season ranked among the top five on the team in five different individual events, including finishing second in the 200 butterfly. In her final event of the campaign, the Southlake, Texas, native recorded career-best times in the 100 and 200 fly to place fourth in the A Final of both events at the Tennessee Last Chance Invitational, which came one week after she posted a career-low mark in the 100 fly while also competing in the 200 freestyle and 200 fly at the SEC Championships. A double major in engineering science and communication of science & technology, Heintz made the First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll as a freshman.

Originally from Fort Collins, Colorado, Hinerfeld concluded her first season as a Commodore second on the team’s performer list in the 100 and 200 backstroke, and she was also among the top five in the 100 and 200 fly and 400 individual medley. The junior—who is majoring in biomedical engineering—had the fastest times of her career in the 100 and 200 back at the SEC Championships after advancing to the B Final in each event at the Gamecock Invitational in November. Hinerfeld ended the campaign third on Vandy’s all-time performer list in the 200 back, fourth in the 100 back and 10th in the 200 IM.

A graduate transfer, Mathieson also earned Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Mountain West Conference recognition at San Jose State before coming to Vanderbilt. In her lone season competing for the Dores, she posted the team’s best times in the 100 and 200 free while also standing among the top three in the 200 IM and 50 free, after setting the school record in the 100 free at the Gamecock Invitational and recording a season-low time in the 200 free that ranks second in program history. Originally from Lone Tree, Colorado, Mathieson is working toward a master’s degree in medicine, health & society.

Utley concluded her Commodore career as the first individual from the program to qualify for consecutive NCAA Championships since 1987-89 after competing in the 100 and 200 fly at the meet last month. She departs Vanderbilt as the overall and freshman record holder in the two events after advancing to finals in both at the SEC Championships, and she also set the school standard in the 200 IM during the 2024-25 campaign. The Huntington Beach, California, resident—who has majors in classical & Mediterranean studies as well as medicine, health & society—was named a CSCAA Scholar All-American and to the SEC Academic Honor Roll each of her first three seasons at the collegiate level.

To be eligible to make the Academic All-District® team, student-athletes must participate in five competitions or finish among the top eight at a conference championship, have a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and achieved at least sophomore standing both academically and athletically.
