The Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team wrapped up its fall season at the end of October by taking part in the Duke Fall Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 30. The event in Durham marked VU’s third weekend of competitive play for the fall, after hosting Cincinnati on Oct. 1 and traveling to the United State Naval Academy on the 15th.
With the fall season in her rearview mirror, Vanderbilt Head Coach Cathy Swezey commented on the what she had learned about the team in their month of training.
“The beginning of every great year starts with great leadership,” Swezey said. “The 10 seniors we have are doing a phenomenal job. They’re saying the right things, they’re doing the right things. They’re setting an example by their work ethic. I told the freshmen after our tournament the other day that they were lucky to have leaders like these. I feel really optimistic about the year and what we can do this season. We have a lot of talent and our girls are working harder than they’ve ever worked. I feel really good about it.”
In wrapping up the 2011 fall season, Swezey also announced that the Commodores had elected captains for the upcoming season. Seniors Ally Carey, Catherine Carr and Kendall Pittinger will serve as the squad’s 2012 tri-captains.
