Commodores swim past UWF and UNF

The Vanderbilt swim team defeated both the University of West Florida and the University of North Florida in Thursday’s tri-meet in Pensacola, Fla. The Commodores won over eight events before having to begin swimming exhibitions.

“I thought we did a great job racing,” said head coach Jeremy Organ. “I’m very happy with the progress we have seen overall. We’re looking forward to a tough contest against Auburn and Notre Dame on Saturday.”

In their second away meet of the season the Commodores came in first place defeating UWF 141-113, and UNF 159- 93. In addition to the two overall wins, the `Dores broke three facility records held at the UWF Aquatic Center.

The three records came from Kathryn Coughlin’s win in the 100-yard breaststroke, coming in with a time of 1:04.34. In the 200-yard breaststoke Vandy’s Kara Lucenti swam a time of 2:19.91. The last Commodore to break a facility record on Thursday came from Sophomore Kayla Moran who swam the 100 butterfly at a time of 56.74.

The Commodores stay on the road as they travel to Alabama to take on SEC rival Auburn and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a tri-meet on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
