LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Vanderbilt swim team began its second half of the season on the right note, as the team placed first in every race en route to defeat the Little Rock Trojans; 211-68. The Commodores are now 5-0 in the pool against Little Rock, with wins coming in consecutive seasons.
On top of taking first in every race, VU generated five podium sweeps; the most generated in one meet this season. The ‘Dores clinched first, second and third in the 50 back, 100 fly, 100 breast, 50 fly and the 100 IM.
“It was a good day racing with a little different format,” said head coach Jeremy Organ. The team had a lot of fun, and it was nice to do something a little different with the 50’s in stroke and the 100 yard relays.”
VU’s fly group continued to excel, as both events were swept, with sophomore record holder Breanna Sapienza took first in each event.
The different format proved fruitful for the ‘Dores as both the 50 back and breaststroke were first place finishes. Johanna Goldblatt secured her second collegiate first place victory, taking the top spot in the 50 back at a time of 28.00. One event later, sophomore Kara Lucenti earned first in the 50 breast, coming in at 31.22.
Summer Brown, Madeline Hunt, Kayla Moran, Goldblatt, Lucenti and Sapienza all earned two first place finishes in individual events, and helped Vanderbilt earn relay victories either in the 100 Medley Relay (Goldblatt, Coughlin, Sapienza, Moran) at 49.21 or the 100 freestyle relay (Sapienza, Goldblatt, Hunt, Brown) coming in at 44.63.
The Commodores next meet will be on Jan. 16th at home against South Carolina. Admission is free, with action taking place at the Centennial SportsPlex.
