NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Commodores began hosting what is to be the last fall tournament for most the teams in attendance at this year’s Commodore Scramble. Vanderbilt came out Friday morning compiling an impressive 7-0 mark against their various singles opponents.
“I thought today went really well,” said associate head coach Jamie Hunt. “It was a great start to the tournament. We competed well and won a ton of matches. I’m excited for us to try and do it again tomorrow.”
The tournament field consists of seven teams from both the SEC and Tennessee area. Teams in attendance include; Alabama, Belmont, Memphis, MTSU, Ole Miss, and Tennessee Tech.
After the completion of the first session of singles the Commodores took the courts for doubles where all but one team came out victorious.
An additional round of singles was played in the afternoon with three Commodores going undefeated for the day; Daniel Valent, Baker Newman, and Suresh Eswaran.
Saturday’s action resumes at 9:30 a.m. with doubles. Singles competition will begin immediately after the conclusion of doubles.
