NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt extended its win streak to four games on Sunday afternoon with a 13-11 come-from-behind win over Coastal Carolina at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.
Karlie Bucci’s go-ahead goal with 2:33 left on the clock was her third of the day and gave Vanderbilt the lead for good. The Commodores outscored the Chanticleers 10-5 in the second half.
Coastal Carolina led by as many as three goals in the first half. Goalkeeper Claire Martell made 11 saves for the Chants in in the first half as Vandy managed just three goals at halftime.
Callie Sundin and Bucci scored two goals in the first five minutes of the third quarter to cut Coastal’s lead to 6-5, but the Chanticleers once again went in front by three, leading 10-7 going into the final 15 minutes.
Vanderbilt used a 6-1 fourth quarter to rally and keep the win streak alive. Bri Gross scored the first goal of the period followed by Bucci’s second goal with 9:49 on the clock.
Sundin tied the game at 10-10 with 9:03 remaining and Ellie Hilsabeck gave Vanderbilt its first lead at 11-10 with a little under eight minutes remaining.
After Coastal evened up the score at 11-11, Bucci completed her hat trick with just two and a half minutes remaining. Hilsabeck scored again with 58 seconds on the clock to put the game away at 13-11.
Gabby Fornia totaled five points on four assists and a goal. The fifth-year senior had recorded four or more points and all but two games this season.
Vanderbilt (7-3) begins conference play on April 2 at Temple. The Dores’ next home game is April 9 vs. East Carolina.
