ROCKY FACE, Ga. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team was one of only two teams to show improvement on each day of the Carpet Capital Collegiate, shooting a five-over-par 293 on Sunday to move up to 16th place.

Georgia State took first place out of the 18-team field that competed over 54 holes on the par-72, 7,010-yard layout of The Farm Club. The Panthers carded a three-round total of 856 (-8) to defeat Florida (855, -7), Georgia (863, -1) and host Georgia Tech (867, +3).

With a solid Sunday round, the Commodores moved ahead of Augusta State and Oklahoma. Freshman Jon Curran led Vanderbilt on Sunday, shooting a two-under-par 70. Junior Luke List went one-over in the final round to secure a top-20 finish at two-over-par.

Along with Curran, two other Commodores also put up their best round on Sunday. Freshman Tyler Matthews shot a two-over 74, while junior Dos Goldsmith had a four-over 76.

At 11-under, Georgia State’s Mark Haastrup took medalist honors by two strokes over Clemson’s David May.

The Carpet Capital Collegiate closes out the Commodores fall schedule. Vanderbilt will return to team action in March of next 2006, travelling to the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Fla.a
