TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Rain that covered much of the Southeast put a damper on Vanderbilt’s first day at the Crimson Tide Fall Championships on Friday. Because of the rain, play at Vanderbilt’s final tournament of the fall was slowed throughout the day due to play moving indoors, which shrunk the available courts from 20 to four.
Despite the weather delays, it did not appear to bother the Commodores, who got off to a quick start in doubles play Friday by winning their first two matches.
Earning wins were Vanderbilt’s duos of Charlie Jones and Bryant Salcedo and Alex DiValerio and James Moye.
Playing in the Red Draw, Jones and Salcedo earned an 8-3 win over Jacksonville’s Vinny Craveiro and Francisco Riveroll in the round of 32.
DiValerio and Moye defeated Jacksonville State’s Thomas Bellman and Steffen Solomon, 9-7, in the round of 32 in the White Draw.
Vanderbilt’s other two doubles teams of Nick Cromydas and Vijay Paul and Adam Baker and Alex Zotov received byes in the first round.
Vanderbilt will continue play at the Crimson Tide Fall Championships on Saturday.
