Rich Practice Facility, Vanderbilt University – The Commodores prepared for their first day in full pads with a two-hour practice Wednesday that focused on conditioning and expanding the offensive and defensive schemes.

The Commodores are scheduled to go into full pads Thursday afternoon, then take Friday off before practicing Saturday morning. The Thursday practice the last opportunity for the general public to see the squad prior to the Black and Gold Scrimmage, scheduled Saturday, March 26, at 10 a.m.

“We implemented a lot of things (Wednesday) and worked to get all of our guys up to speed before we go move into full gear. I was pleased with what we were able to accomplish. I think the guys are looking forward to putting the pads on,” Johnson said.

Former Commodores Approaching Important Pro Day
Several former Commodores are gearing up for Vanderbilt’s Pro Day, scheduled Friday on campus.

Most NFL teams are expected to be represented at the Commodore workout, which includes weight, agility and position drills that are critical in the evaluation process leading toward the upcoming draft.

At least 12 players off the 2004 Commodore unit are expected to go through the workout. testing. Two Commodores that attended the recent NFL combine, offensive tackle Justin Geisinger and defensive end Jovan Haye, are among the former players scheduled to participate.

Also scheduled to participate are wide receiver Brandon Smith, tailback Norval McKenzie, fullback Matthew Tant, cornerbacks Bill Alford, Dominique Morris and Lorenzo Parker, offensive guard Brian Kovolisky, defensive tackles Matt Clay and Robert Dinwiddie, and kicker/punter Abtin Iranmanesh.

The Pro Day activities is not open to the general public.
