Vanderbilt women’s golf ended the second-round of the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship with a total of 585 (289-296), 12 strokes back of the lead in a tie for fourth place. Sophomore Jenny Hahn leads all Commodore golfers with an even-par total of 144 (72-72), which puts her in a tie for ninth place in the individual standings, with junior Kendall Martindale and freshman Simin Feng in a tie for 12th with a 145 total.

After rain soaked the middle Tennessee area overnight, players awoke to a two-hour delay and much more difficult conditions. The Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course played much longer on Saturday due to the wet fairways, and the wind and cooler temperatures did not make things any easier for the competing teams. Only one team, UCLA was under par in the second round, and only one team, Duke, finished at one-over par.

“We were close today to having a decent team score, but in a field like this you’re not going to make up ground having to count a score in the upper 70s,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “Overall though, I was very pleased with how the team competed.”

The Commodores counted scores from Hahn, Kendall Martindale (73), Simin Feng (73), and junior Irina Gabasa (78). Sophomore Morgan Ransom carded a second-round 80 for Vanderbilt on Saturday.

UCLA posted the best round of the day with a four-under par, 284, and vaulted into first place past Arizona State. The Bruins have a two-round score of 573 (289-284), five strokes better than the Sun Devils.

On the individual leader board, Virginia’s Elizabeth Brightwell is in the lead with a five-under par, 139, after a second-round 69 on Saturday. Brightwell leads Augusta James of N.C. State and Erynne Lee of UCLA by two strokes and four players by three strokes.

Freshman Antonia Scherer led all Commodore individuals on Saturday with an even-par 72. Rene Sobolewski carded a second-round 77, Katie Rose Higgins a 78, Kate Sborov an 81, Kimberly Koehler an 82, and Lauren Johnson an 83.

The third and final round of the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship continues on Sunday.
