“Commodores in the Community” Events Continue Thursday On-Campus 6-16-04
Nashville, Tenn. – The second week of “Commodores in the Community” events features Vanderbilt football coaches and players meeting with university faculty and staff, an appearance at Greer Stadium before a Nashville Sounds game, and radio interviews with the team’s new flagship radio station. Assistant Head Coach and offensive line mentor Robbie Caldwell will join the Commodores newest assistant, running backs coach Kenny Carter, to kickoff the activities by joining a WGFX 104.5 “The Zone” live remote Wednesday afternoon at Sam’s in Hillsboro Village near campus. Caldwell and Carter, scheduled to jointly conduct an interview at 5:05 p.m., also will greet Commodore fans in the eatery. Vanderbilt Head Coach Bobby Johnson is scheduled to appear at events Thursday and Friday. On Thursday afternoon, Johnson will join other members of his coaching staff and three returning starters for a picnic with Vanderbilt faculty and staff. On Friday, Johnson will greet visitors at the Nashville Sounds game that features a post-game fireworks display. The first week of “Commodores in the Community” featured Coach Johnson and several key players visiting three locations — The Mall at Green Hills, the Country Music Association Music Festival and a Chick-fil-A restaurant in the Hendersonville/Madison area. Vanderbilt hopes to broaden fan interest in the upcoming season and bring attention to season ticket plans that start at $99 per person. A description of this week’s activities follows: Caldwell & Carter on 104.5 “The Zone” Wednesday, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Sam’s 21st Avenue (Hillsboro Village) Though not officially part of Commodores in the Community, assistant coaches Robbie Caldwell and Kenny Carter will greet fans before appearing live on Vanderbilt’s new flagship radio station, 104.5 FM “The Zone.” Popular 104.5 on-air personalities George Plaster, Willy Daunic and Darren McFarland will host their afternoon drive-time show at the eatery. The interview with Caldwell and Carter is scheduled to begin at 5:05 p.m. Drawings for several Commodore items, including an authentic jersey worn during the 2003 season and a Family Pack of Season Ticket (a $215 value featuring two adult and two youth tickets), will be held after the radio interviews. Posters, schedule cards and season ticket information also will be available. “Vanderbilt Football Hosts Faculty-Staff Picnic” Thursday, 4:00-6:00 p.m. Bishop Commons (near Vanderbilt Law School) Bobby Johnson, members of his coaching staff and selected players will gather on campus for a cookout with Commodore faculty and staff. The event, scheduled near the entrance to the prestigious Vanderbilt Law School, is open to all faculty and staff. Among the players expected to appear are junior safety Andrew Pace, senior defensive lineman Robert Dinwiddie and junior safety Kelechi Ohanaja. Drawings for numerous Commodore items, including two authentic jerseys worn during the 2003 season and an autographed football, will be held after the radio interviews. Posters, schedule cards and season ticket information also will be available. “Vanderbilt Night with the Nashville Sounds” Friday, 5:30-7:00 p.m. Main Gate, Greer Stadium, Nashville Bobby Johnson will greet fans of the Commodores and Sounds at the main gate prior to Friday’s game between the Sounds and Albuquerque Isotopes. Johnson also is scheduled to throw out the first pitch for the 7:00 p.m. start. A postgame fireworks show also is on tap.
