NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt swim team will travel on the road again as they head out west to San Diego, Calif. this weekend. They will take on San Diego State and UC San Diego in a tri-meet on Friday that will begin at 4 pm CT.
The ‘Dores split their previous tri-meet on the road when they defeated West Florida 193-101 and fell to Alabama 200.5-85.5. The Vandy freshmen had another impressive showing as Selah Peacock, Amanda Chabbott and Paige Hamilton earned podium finishes for the second-consecutive meet to begin their college careers. The Commodores finished the meet strong, picking up first and second place finishes in the last two events. Kara Lucenti won the 200 IM while the Vandy A relay team earned the victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Selah Peacock was named SEC Freshman of the Week by the conference this past Tuesday for her start to the season. In just two meets, Peacock has one first place and two runner-up finishes for the ‘Dores. She is the first Commodore to win the award since Jenn Mann back in 2012.
Scouting the Aztecs: This will be San Diego State’s third meet of the season as they won their opening contest against Pepperdine 155-53 and finished second in the Chick-fil-A Invitational. The Aztecs will be facing the Commodores for the third consecutive season. Last year, the ‘Dores traveled to San Diego over fall break and the year prior, San Diego State traveled to West End for two-consecutive meets. The Aztecs finished third last season in the Mountain West Conference.
Scouting the Tritons: UC San Diego will be opening their season this Friday against Vanderbilt and San Diego State. They hosted their Blue vs. Gold exhibition this past Saturday. The Tritons won the Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference for the eighth consecutive season and finished third at the Division II NCAA Championships last season in Indianapolis, Ind.
