Vanderbilt women’s golf carded a final round 291 on Sunday and finished in a tie for third with Duke at the Mason Rudolph Championship with a final score of 876 (289-296-291). Freshman Simin Feng led all Commodore players, ending the tournament in a tie for fifth with an even-par, 216 (72-73-71), with teammate Kendall Martindale also finishing the tournament in the top ten with a total of 217 (72-73-72, T-9).
UCLA won the tournament by 21 strokes and was the only team under par with a final total of 14-under par, 850 (289-284-277). Arizona State finished second with a score of 871 (285-293-293).
The Commodores counted Feng’s 71, Martindale’s 72, Morgan Ransom’s 73, and Jenny Hahn’s 75. Irina Gabasa carded a 77 for Vanderbilt on Sunday.
“Let me start by saying what an impressive statement UCLA made,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “Ive presented them with the trophy four of my seven years here and this might have been the most dominate performance. As for the Dores, it sure didn’t look too promising through the first 8 or 9 holes and then Simin holed out for eagle on 11 and then the birdie putts started dropping. A third place finish in this field is very encouraging. I’m really excited about the possibilities of how good this team can really be.”
Vanderbilt, who played six individuals this weekend, was led by senior Rene Sobolewski, who finished in a tie for 44th with a total of 227 (72-77-78). Freshman Antonia Scherer finished in a tie for 58th, Katie Rose Higgins finished 83rd, freshman Lauren Johnson 84th, Kate Sborov 85th, and Kimberly Koehler 86th.
“I’m also very appreciative of all the VU staff, Legends staff, TGA and all the volunteers for helping us out on one of the premier college golf events,” said Allen.
