Commodores Finish 12th At Jerry Pate 10/11/2005 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team finished 12th behind a strong field at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Old Overton Club. Tuesday’s third round concluded the event, which featured 36 holes Monday played on the course’s par-71, 6,958-yard layout. Junior Luke List finished at even par to lead the Commodores. He placed in a tie for 22nd place overall. Junior Dos Goldsmith ended his final round at three-over, placing in a tie for 36th. Freshman Jon Curran shot par on Friday to hold steady at six-over for the tournament, while freshman Tyler Matthews and senior Will Armstrong each approved upon their second round scores. Matthews’ 73 on Tuesday helped him score for the Commodores for the first time in the tournament. Georgia Tech (274-278-276–828, -24) took the team title, beating defending national champion Georgia (834, -18) by six strokes. UAB (842, -10), Alabama (844, -8) and Brigham Young (847, -5) rounded out the tournament’s top five teams. Individually, UAB’s Garrett Osborn (62-66-69–197, -16) took medalist honors, winning by an astounding nine-stroke margin ahead of Georgia’s Chris Kirk and BYU’s Jake Ellison (206, -7). Nine of the nation’s top 25 teams are competing in the tournament, including the top-ranked Bulldogs.
