Commodores fall to Arkansas, Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt Swimming and Diving team came up on the short end Friday as it fell to Arkansas and Tennessee at the new Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn. The Commodores, coming off their first two wins since restarting the program in 2006, fell 248-48 and 252-48 to the Lady Vols and Razorbacks, respectively.

The Lady Vols captured 11 titles, while Arkansas took home five titles.

Freshman Allie Voss led the `Dores with an eighth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. Voss, a native of Columbia, S.C. swam to season-best time of 1:08.45. Voss’s time topped her previous mark of 1:08.49, which she set last weekend against Centre and Rhodes.

Fellow freshman Zoe Cooper-Surma also posted a season-high and team-high Friday with a 25.60 in the 50-yard freestyle. The mark tops teammate Kelly Obranowicz’s previous team-high time by two-hundredth of a second (25.62).

Sophomore Jennifer Molchan recorded a season best 54.95 in the 100-yard freestyle to finish eighth. Obranowicz finished right behind Molchan with a time of 55.22

The `Dores will practice for a couple of weeks before they head south to Houston to partake in the Phil Hansel Duals Nov. 14-15.
