Commodores fall at Mizzou; 138-96

COLUMBIA, Mo. – In their final road test before SEC Championships, the Vanderbilt swim team earned 11 podium finishes, but ultimately fell to the Missouri Tigers; 138-96.

While the Commodores could not pull out the win, the team enjoyed the benefit of scouting out the waters of this season’s SEC Championship pool in the Mizzou Aquatic Center.

The squad brought in a total of eight second place finishes, with Summer Brown, Breanna Sapienza, and Kara Lucenti leading the squad at two apiece.

Brown’s initial second place came in the first individual event of the day, the 200 free (1:52.73), which was followed by a personal record in the 200 IM, with the sophomore coming in at 2:11.79.

Sapienza earned second in the 100 and 200 fly, both events in which she currently own the Vanderbilt school record. In the 200 fly, the Medford, Ore. swam in at a time of 2:04.98 and was followed by teammate Carrie Bencic at 2:08.19.

Competing in the 100 fly, the sophomore came in at 55.40, but swam a 53.63 earlier this season to clinch the VU record.

Lucenti nabbed her second place finishes in the 100-yard breast at 1:04.80 and the 200 IM at a time of 2:09.17.

Bencic also generated four points for the team, earning runner-up honors in the 500 free, swimming in at 5:11.47.

Vanderbilt concludes its regular season this Saturday at 11:00 am CT at Ensworth High School. Get to Ensworth early, as the Commodores will honor senior Hannah Martin before the tri meet against Marshall and North Florida at 10:45 am.
