Commodores drop first SEC match

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 47 Arkansas Razorbacks topped the No. 48 Vanderbilt Commodores to open SEC play, as the Dores dropped another close 4-3 match.

Charlie Jones, Gonzales Austin and Anton Kovrigin each won their singles matches, with Austin and Kovrigin coming back after losing their first sets to win on their courts.

Arkansas won the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead over Vanderbilt. They made it 3-0 by winning two quick matches in singles over Joe Dorn and Michael Retta. It was Retta’s first collegiate duals action of the season.

Vanderbilt heads to LSU next to play the Tigers on Sunday at 1 p.m. LSU is No. 17 in the ITA’s latest rankings and has two ranked doubles pairs (#38 Olivier Borsos-Chris Simpson and#39 James Turbervill-Neal Skupski) and a ranked individual in #66 Borsos.
