NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt’s 85-69 win over Cal (2-1) on Wednesday will be remembered as the day Tyler Tanner introduced himself to the Commodore faithful. The freshman guard notched 14 points and three steals in his 24 minutes of play, electrifying Memorial Gym with fastbreak dunks and three-pointers.

Vanderbilt (3-0) went back-and-forth to open the game with Cal, eventually taking a double-digit lead at the 8-minute timeout. The Commodores continued to increase their lead by forcing turnovers, amassing 12 steals in the first half. Vanderbilt led Cal by 18 at the half.

The Golden Bears clawed back in the game early in the second half, closing within nine with 12:30 to play, but Vanderbilt never faltered, going on a 7-0 run to regain command. The Dores would hold their double-digit lead until the final whistle.

Devin McGlockton led Vanderbilt with 18 points and Jason Edwards continued his double-figure scoring streak with 16 himself. AJ Hoggard added nine points, five rebounds and six assists. Grant Huffman stuffed the stat sheet with six points, six assists, five rebounds and a career-high tying four steals.
