FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Vanderbilt swim team earned second place in a quad meet against Arkansas, Clemson and Houston.
The Commodores begin the second day of competition taking second in the 200 medley relay, with Johanna Goldblatt, Kathryn Coughlin, Kayla Moran and Breanna Sapienza racing in at a time of 1:45.91.
VU followed up the second place finish with Alexandra Blankenburg taking second in the 400 IM at a time of 4:37.23. Both Moran and Branda Cha kept the podium streak alive, taking third place in the 100 free (53.82) and the 200 backstroke (2:07.62) respectively.
Vanderbilt had an impressive showing in one of their best events, the 100 fly. Breanna Sapienza generated the ‘Dores first first place finish in Fayetteville at a time of 55.26. Moran followed with a third place finish swimming in at 57.02.
The ‘Dores back up the powerful swim in the 100 fly, with yet another great showing in the 500 free. Sophomore Summer Brown earned second place at 5:01.95. Carrie Bencic finished close begin, coming in at 5:03.66 for the black and gold.
VU rounded off individual races with Kara Lucenti taking the runner-up spot in the 200 breast at a time of 2:17.68. Sapienza, Cha, Brown and Martin ended the meet taking second in the 400 freestyle relay at a time of 3:30.77.
Vanderbilt stays on the road next week for competition, traveling to Columbia, Mo. on Jan. 28 for an SEC dual meet against the Tigers.
