Commodores Announce Kickoff Times For Early-Season Football Games

Nashville, Tenn. — After opening the 2004 season with three day games, the Commodore football team will host consecutive Saturday night encounters at Vanderbilt Stadium against Southeastern Conference foe Mississippi State and Big East opponent Rutgers.

The announcement by Vanderbilt athletic officials today regarding probable game times comes two weeks after the SEC and television partner Jefferson-Pilot Sports revealed that Vanderbilt’s first two games – a Sept. 4 home encounter against South Carolina and a Sept. 18 road trip versus Ole Miss – would be aired on regional television. Both games will start at 11:30 a.m. CT.

The Commodores travel to Maryland to face Navy before returning to Vanderbilt Stadium to play night games versus Mississippi State on Oct. 2 and Rutgers on Oct. 9.

If Vanderbilt officials have their way, the Commodores’ final three home games – Eastern Kentucky on Oct. 23, Florida on Nov. 6 and Tennessee on Nov. 20 – will start at 1:00 p.m. Decisions by the SEC and its television partners during the season could affect either the Florida-Vanderbilt or Tennessee-Vanderbilt kickoff.

The Commodores, with 21 of 22 starters returning from a year ago, open the season in Vanderbilt Stadium with SEC East foe South Carolina. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
