Commodore Q&A – Abby Carr

What have you been up to since you graduated from Vanderbilt?
Right after graduation I moved to Washington, DC and have lived on Capitol Hill since. I currently work on a National Institutes of Health grant that manages the Neuroimaging Informatics Tools and Resources Clearinghouse. One of my post-graduation goals is to travel to at least one new country every year. In 2015, I got to visit a Vanderbilt Cross Country alum in Colombia and then a soccer alum in the Dominican Republic. This year I went to Morocco, Iceland and England, and in England my now soon-to-be husband proposed. We’ll be getting married in June and I’ll be moving aboard our sailboat in Annapolis, MD, that my fiancé already lives on. Our dream is to sail the world!

What is the best memory you have from Vanderbilt?
My final week at Vanderbilt comes together to create my best memory from Vanderbilt. It included all of my favorite people in one of my favorite places to celebrate what was the culmination of many early morning training sessions and late nights studying.

How did your time at Vanderbilt prepare you for life after graduation?
Vanderbilt taught me how important time is, time management and to value the time I spend with others. Working a full-time job, time management is important to help me spend my time wisely everyday and helps me make sure I have time to spend on what I value most.

What was your favorite place in Nashville to visit or explore?
Frothy Monkey in the mornings and Bobby’s Dairy Dip in the evenings… can I have two?

Who are the most influential teammates you played with and give a moment/story that would be able to describe them.
Kendra Hendrix. Kendra walked on to the team her sophomore year, the same year I transferred to Vanderbilt. Before our home game that year against LSU, Kendra and I were on the field during the day for a run and stretch. Coach walked up to us to tell Kendra she’d be getting her first start that night. I’ll never forget the look of joy on Kendra’s face when he told her. That night we won the game in OT and Kendra played every minute.

What advice do you have for players that are currently on the team?
Love every moment, even the ones that might be hard to love at the time. This truly is a once in a lifetime experience and the friends you make will last a lifetime.
