Commodore MG Summer Update

July 19, 2017

The current Commodore men’s golfers have been busy this summer, as have recent Commodore graduates.

Here’s a look at what they have been up to.

Current Commodore update
At one of the more prestigious amateur tournaments last week at the Players Amateur, the leader board looked more like a Vanderbilt outing with the Commodores placing four of the top nine players in the tournament.

Patrick Martin and Theo Humphrey finished in a tie for third with a 12-under par, 272, John Augenstein finished in a tie for fifth with a 273, and Will Gordon finished ninth with an eight-under par, 276. Michael Decker and Harrison Ott each participated in the tournament but missed the cut.

Humphrey and Gordon have also qualified for the U.S. Amateur, which will take place August 14-20 at The Riviera Country Club and Bel-Air Country Club. Martin will also play in the event after being exempt from qualifying because of his amateur world ranking.

Andrew Jacobe and incoming freshman Cooper Sears will participate in the Southern Amateur this weekend. That event will take place at the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst. Decker will tee it up at the Porter Cup this weekend in Lewiston, N.Y.

Commodores named GCAA All-Academic Team
The 2016-17 edition of the Commodores’ men’s golf team was named as a Golf Coaches Association of America All-Academic Team, which is designated for teams that have a 3.0 team GPA or better.

Schwab grabs a top 10 on Challenge Tour
Recent graduate Matthias Schwab carded a 17-under par, 267 (67-68-65-67) and finished in a tie for seventh at the Italian Challenge Open by Lyoness last weekend, his best finish to date on the European Tour’s Challenge Tour.

Schwab returns to the links this weekend at the Challenge Tour’s Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge in France.

Stewart ninth on MacKenzie Tour
Former Commodore All-American Hunter Stewart (class of 2015) is ninth on the PGA MacKenzie Tour – Canada money list heading into this weekend’s event at the Mackenzie Investments Open presented by Jaguar Laval in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada. Stewart has two top 10’s on the MacKenzie Tour so far this season.

Snedeker withdraws from Open Championship
Commodore and PGA Tour stalwart Brandt Snedeker has withdrawn from this weekend’s Open Championship in Royal Birkshire due to a rib injury. The Nashville native was slated for his eight consecutive appearance at the tournament before the recent setback.
