Luke List

EL PASO, Texas — Vanderbilt junior Luke List carded a three-round total of 13-under-par to finish atop an impressive field that included 31 of the nation’s top collegiate golfers at the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic, which finished Tuesday on the El Paso Country Club’s par-71, 6,817-yard format.

List held a two-stroke lead through Monday’s 36 holes, and teed off Tuesday morning with Georgia’s Chris Kirk and Oklahoma State’s Pablo Martin. The tournament quickly became a three-horse race, as Kirk and Martin caught up with List on the sixth hole, all three at minus-10. But birdies on eight and nine gave List a lead he would not relinquish.

On the back, List padded his lead with birdies on holes 11 and 16. Up by two strokes on the final hole, List’s lone bogey of the day (his first since hole seven of the first round) proved not to be costly.

The Ringgold, Ga., native finished the tournament with 16 birdies and only three bogeys to take medalist honors for the second time this fall. List finished first at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate, VU’s home tournament played at the Vanderbilt Legends Club of Tennessee in September and October.

With his victory, List joins an elite group of past champions that includes Ricky Barnes (2000), Notah Begay (1994), David Duval (1991), Matt Kuchar (1999), Davis Love III (1984), Chris Nallen (2003), Jerry Pate (1974) and Tiger Woods (1995).

The Golf Classic, hosted by the Sun Bowl Association for the 31st year, awarded a $1,000-scholarship to each school with a golfer competing in the tournament. Complete results of the event are available at http://golfstat.com/ or http://www.sunbowl.org/.
