Vanderbilt students were joined for lunch Thursday on campus at the Commons Center by football coach James Franklin, soccer coach Derek Greene, cross country/track coach Steven Keith and Vice Chancellor David Williams.
Williams and the three coaches each spoke briefly to the students, thanking them for supporting their programs, while also encouraging them to watch their teams compete in the coming days.
Vanderbilt’s soccer team hosts No. 11 Memphis at 7 p.m. tonight (Thursday), the cross country teams hosts their second and final home meet of the season Saturday morning at Percy Warner Park and the football team hosts Ole Miss at 11:21 a.m. (SEC Network) Saturday morning.
Below are a few excerpts from what the coaches said to the students.
James Franklin, Football
“I’d like to thank everyone for their support. We really appreciate you coming out this past weekend for the UConn game. I know it is an early game this weekend, but it is a big game for us against Ole Miss and I’d really love to see everyone out there supporting their fellow classmates.”
Derek Greene, Soccer
“We’ve all been so blessed and privileged to represent you guys at this university. We know that all of you are special students to go to Vanderbilt and we know how hard you work, and we just hope we can bring that back to the athletic field.”
Steven Keith, Cross Country/Track
“This is my sixth season at Vanderbilt, and we’ve made a lot of progress. We’ve got our second home meet this coming weekend and next year we host the SEC Championships here so it is kind of a preview for things to come. We really appreciate everyone’s support.”
