Former Vanderbilt standout safety Javon Marshall enters his second year on the Commodore coaching staff. After serving as a graduate assistant in 2016, Marshall will be a defensive quality control this season.

Marshall, from Huber Heights, Ohio, earned four letters as a Commodore safety from 2010-13, and served as a defensive co-captain during the 2013 season.

Marshall helped Vanderbilt to three consecutive postseason bowl appearances, including wins in the Franklin-American Mortgage Music City Bowl and BBVA Compass Bowl. With Marshall in the starting lineup, the Commodores registered a 24-15 overall record, including back-to-back nine win campaigns in 2012-13. 

Marshall contributed 144 solo stops, 209 total tackles, eight tackles for loss and three interceptions during his Commodore career. 

Marshall was a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient at Vanderbilt. 

He earned a bachelor’s degree in human & organizational development from Vanderbilt in 2013. Marshall completed a master’s in education from Vanderbilt in 2016.
