Assistant Strength Coach

Ben Schumacher enters his third year on the Vanderbilt staff as a key assistant to Head Football Strength Coach James Dobson.

Schumacher assists Dobson with all aspects of the Vanderbilt strength and conditioning program for football, includes winter conditioning, summer workouts and in-season training. He also coordinates new training technologies used by Commodore student-athletes.

Schumacher joins the Commodore staff after spending 2014 season with Dobson working with the University of Nebraska football program as an assistant strength coach. Schumacher came to Lincoln with conditioning the University of Minnesota football team in 2013.

Previously, Schumacher spent two seasons at Harvard where he aided the Crimson to an Ivy League football title as well as an Ivy League Player of the Year in women’s lacrosse. Schumacher also served as the head strength and conditioning coach for nine Division I sports in Cambridge. He earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology at Concordia University St. Paul and completed his master’s in applied health science from Northwest Missouri State.
