The Last Time Out
Vandy finished the 2025 Valspar Collegiate Invitational in ninth place after carding 9-under 843 over three rounds of play at the Floridian National Golf Club.
Junior Wells Williams paced the Commodores in the Sunshine State by tying for 16th. The West Point, Mississippi, native concluded his stay at the Floridian National Golf Club at 5-under 208. It is the junior’s fourth top-20 finish of the 2024-25 season and his first since winning the Southwestern Invitational. Williams wrapped up the Valspar Collegiate at par or better in each round, posting scores of 67-71-70. The junior shot par on a team-best 38 holes and collected Vandy’s lone eagle of the tournament, which came in Round 1 on Hole 13.
The Commodores at the Mason Rudolph
This year marks the 23rd edition of the Mason Rudolph Championship. The annual event began in 2001 and has been held every season since outside the COVID pandemic, where it was canceled in 2020 and played as the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate in 2021.
Vandy has won five-straight team titles at the Mason Rudolph Championship and has won the event a total of nine times. Last season, the Dores took first place after posting a three-round total of 30-under 822. Additionally, Vanderbilt has finished in first place in seven of the last eight Mason Rudolph Championships.
Senior Gordon Sargent seeks to become the first golfer to win the event in three-straight seasons. The 2021 NCAA individual champion captured the individual title at each of the last two Mason Rudolph Championships. Sargent won the event for the first time in 2023, as he carded 17-under 196, then captured his second title in 2024 after finishing at 11-under 202. Sargent and Florida’s Sam Horsfield (2016, 2017) are the only two golfers to win multiple Mason Rudolph Championships in the event’s history.
A total of six Commodores have won seven Mason Rudolph Championships, which includes Brandt Snedeker (2002), Luke List, (2005), Matthias Schwab (2015), Hunter Stewart (2015), John Augenstein (2018), Cole Sherwood (2022), and Gordon Sargent (2023, 2024).
