Men's tennis takes on fourth ranked opponent, continues road stint against No. 14 Texas A&M

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A four-match road trip for the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team continues as the Commodores visit No. 14 Texas A&M at the Mitchell Tennis Center on Sunday.

There was no letdown after coming off a rivalry win over Tennessee for Vanderbilt (10-3, 2-1 SEC), who went into Norman and completed a 4-3 reverse sweep against Oklahoma on Friday. The Dores now turn their focus to No. 14 Texas A&M (9-4, 2-1 SEC), marking the fourth ranked opponent the black and gold have faced this season; all four have been inside the top 15.

Senior Nathan Cox remains the highlight for the Commodores in singles. He pushed his dual match singles record to 12-0 against the Sooners and remains on the longest winning streak of his collegiate career. Cox has produced wins at four different singles positions this season. Vanderbilt owns six victories over ranked singles opponents, two of which came in Friday’s match with Oklahoma. Sophomore Pablo Martinez Gomez collected his first ranked win of the dual match season against No. 79 Oscar Lacides while freshman Jack Satterfield snatched the first ranked win of his career versus No. 89 Asahi Harazaki.

Texas A&M enters the matchup after suffering its first SEC loss of the season, a 4-3 result at home versus No. 13 Georgia on Friday. It was the first loss in College Station this season for the Aggies, who have not lost consecutive home SEC matches since joining the conference in 2012. Their last back-to-back home losses came in 2023 to Kentucky and UTSA.

It will be the 15th meeting between the two schools, with A&M holding a 13-2 all-time advantage. They grabbed a 4-3 win in last season’s matchup in Nashville. Vanderbilt’s lone regular season win in the series came in 2016, a 4-3 home victory. The Dores also took down the No. 10 ranked Aggies in the 2003 NCAA Tournament, 4-3, with head coach Scott Brown as a sophomore on that team.

Vanderbilt and No. 14 Texas A&M are set for a 1 p.m. first serve from the Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station. Live streaming is available online with live stats accessible here.
