NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Coastal Carolina had seven different goal scorers as the Chanticleers edged Vanderbilt 8-7 on Wednesday morning at FirstBank Stadium.
Bailey Lower opened the scoring for Vanderbilt (3-5), but Coastal Carolina (6-2) responded with back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead after the first quarter. In goal, Emme Martin made four saves in the second period to keep the Chanticleers scoreless as the Commodores took a 4-3 lead into halftime.
Coastal Carolina scored three straight to open the third quarter, but Vanderbilt answered with a three-goal run of its own to take a 7-6 advantage heading into the final period. The Chanticleers scored twice in the fourth to secure the win.
Molly Krestinski and Shea Panzik led Vanderbilt with two goals each, while Logan Risenhoover, Lower and Gianna Frieri also found the back of the net. The Commodores controlled the draw circle, 12-5, and outshot Coastal Carolina 20-16 in shots on goal.
Vanderbilt hits the road for three straight contests, beginning Saturday at Xavier. Opening draw is set for 11 a.m. CT and will be streamed on GoXavier.com.
