Caroline Peters named to the 2017 Irish National Team

Dec. 1, 2016

DUBLIN, Ireland – Ireland Lacrosse has announced the 18-player roster for the upcoming 2017 FIL Women’s World Cup and Vanderbilt senior Caroline Peters has been named to the squad.

The 2017 FIL Women’s World Cup will be held in Guilford, Surrey, England from July 12-22. 28 teams are expected to compete this year, up from 19 in the 2013 World Cup. The 18 players were selected following a competitive, three-day selection camp at the Irish National Lacrosse headquarters in Dublin. This will be the fourth time Peters has played for the Irish National Team in International Play.

Peters is from Rockville, Md. but has dual citizenship in the United States and Ireland because her maternal grandmother was born in Dublin. Peters first made the team in 2011 as a 16 year old and competed in the 2012 FIL European Women’s Lacrosse Championships in Amsterdam.

The following year, the team appeared in the 2013 FIL Women’s World Cup in Ontario, Canada. Ireland earned a spot in the championship bracket and finished 10th overall. Peters led the team with 20 goals and 21 points throughout the tournament.

In 2015, Peters and the Irish National Team appeared in the FIL Women’s Lacrosse Championship in Prague. The team earned a fifth place finish, which was their highest finish in international competition. Peters once again led the team in goals (17) and points (21). She was also named to the All-European Championship Tournament Team.

Before heading off to England for another World Cup, Peters will be looking to cap off an impressive Commodore career, as she is one of six seniors on the team this year. The Commodores season will begin at home on Saturday, Feb. 11, against Kennesaw State.
