NASHVILLE – Vanderbilt juniors Ally Carey and Courtney Kirk were named All-American Lacrosse Conference honorees based on a vote by league coaches, conference officials announced Tuesday as the ALC Tournament prepares for its Thursday start at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.
Carey was selected as a first-team honoree for the second straight season, while Kirk was named the league’s second team. A total of 24 student-athletes from the conference’s six member schools were honored.
A midfielder from Bel Air, Md., Carey leads the ALC in ground balls and caused turnovers while ranking second in draw controls. A Tewaaraton Award nominee, Carey also is second on the team in goals and third in both points and assists. She has been named first-team All-ALC for the second straight season.
Kirk’s honor is the first of her VU career. The Baltimore product has paced the Commodore attack with 50 points this season on 23 goals and a team-high 27 assists.
Vanderbilt is playing host to the American Lacrosse Conference Tournament for the first time this week. The Commodores will open the event on Thursday, May 5, against Ohio State. The 4-5 matchup will take place at 3 p.m. CT, with the winner advancing to face top seed Florida. Following the VU-OSU contest, Johns Hopkins and Penn State will face off for the chance to take on Northwestern on Friday.
Friday’s semifinal matchups will follow the same 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. start times as Thursday’s opening round. Saturday’s championship game is scheduled to being at 1 p.m. CT.
Admission to the 2011 ALC Tournament is $7 for adults and $4 for children and seniors.are available at the gate. Tickets are available at the gate. Groups of 20 or more are eligible for discounted pricing by calling the Vanderbilt Ticket Office at 615-322-GOLD.
