Men's tennis downs Louisville in Crimson Tide Fall Challenge opener

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Vanderbilt men’s tennis secured a win in its first hidden dual match of the fall season, defeating Louisville 4-2 in the opening day of competition at the Crimson Tide Fall Challenge hosted by Alabama.

The Dores split doubles play to begin the match. Junior Danil Panarin and freshman Jack Satterfield notched their first doubles win as a pair, 6-4, over Louisville’s No. 51 Walid Ahouda and Hamza El Amine. For Satterfield, it is his second win over the Cardinal duo after downing Ahouda and El Amine 8-7 (5) at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships alongside junior Hugo Coquelin. Louisville struck back with their No. 2 doubles team of Louis Chusseau and Matei Onofrei, who moved past freshman Donghyun Hwang and sophomore Callum Markowitz 6-1.

In singles, the Cardinals continued the momentum after Ahouda defeated No. 46 Panarin 6-3, 6-3 at the top position. From there, it was all Vanderbilt; the Dores secured wins in each of the remaining singles matches. This included a 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (4) thriller from Hwang over Onofrei.

Vanderbilt is set to face Florida State in another hidden dual match at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Seminoles advanced to the second round of last season’s NCAA tournament.
