NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s tennis blanked Belmont 7-0 and Southern Indiana 4-0 to pick up two wins at home on Saturday.
Vandy seized the doubles point early with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Despite early straight set wins by fifth year Henry Ruger and junior Tighe Brunetti, Belmont forced third sets at the top three singles spots. The Dores held on for wins at each position, capped off by a back-and-forth 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (6) thriller from freshman Pablo Martinez Gomez.
Against Southern Indiana, multiple Dores notched their first wins of the spring season; junior Mitchell Deames grabbed a doubles win alongside Brunetti at No. 3 doubles and sophomore Oscar Jensen generated a 6-0, 6-0 route at No. 6 singles. Freshman Dylan Charlap and Callum Markowitz continued the singles momentum for the Dores. Charlap produced multiple aces en route to a 6-1, 6-0 victory before Markowitz clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles. The 4-0 result marks the first win over the Screaming Eagles in program history.
Vanderbilt (5-2) has two matches remaining before opening SEC play.
