The Wellesley, Massachusetts, native earns his first career SEC weekly accolade after finishing tied for third at the Wolfpack Individual

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Vanderbilt men’s golfer John Broderick was named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.

It is the first SEC weekly accolade for Broderick, as he shares the honor with Auburn’s Jackson Koivun. Broderick earned the award after collecting the first top-three finish of his career. He tied for third at the Wolfpack Individual with a two-round score of 2-under 140.

Broderick opened the Wolfpack Individual by carding 2-under 69 in the first round. He punctuated the back nine during his final round of play, as he collected three consecutive birdies on Holes 15-17 to end Round 2 at even-par 71. The Wellesley, Massachusetts, native collected seven birdies over 36 holes of play at the Wolfpack Individual.

Broderick has played in two tournaments as an individual in his first season of competition with Vanderbilt, after not appearing in an event during the 2022-23 season. He holds a stroke average of 71.6 through five rounds of play this season. The Wellesley, Massachusetts, native opened his Vandy career by carding a career-best 4-under 68 in the first round of the MartinFed Invitational back on Oct. 16.

The Vanderbilt men’s golf team heads to Mexico next week to compete in the Cabo Collegiate. The tournament takes place March 3-5 at the Twin Dolphin Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The Commodores will be looking to defend their team title at the Cabo Collegiate, as Vandy won last year’s tournament by 12 strokes.
