Blaze named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

February 27, 2018

Vanderbilt lacrosse is becoming a mainstay on the BIG EAST weekly awards during the team’s undefeated start. Junior midfielder Julie Blaze was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Tuesday, marking the Commodores’ third appearance on the weekly awards in as many weeks. Blaze was also named the conference’s Midfielder of the Week for Week 1 this season on February 13.

Blaze had five points, scoring four goals and adding an assist, in Vanderbilt’s 19-7 win over Furman on Saturday. The junior from Towson, Md., has a hat trick in every game this season, and is third on the roster with 11 goals and 14 points through three games.

Blaze is key on both the offensive and defensive ends for Coach Cathy Swezey’s undefeated team, which received votes in this week’s Inside Lacrosse Media Poll for the first time since 2012 and is leading the nation with 19.67 goals per game.

Vanderbilt seeks its first 4-0 start since 2008 on Tuesday afternoon, when the Dores host Louisville at 3 p.m. at the VU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
